I have created various wireframes to show differing variations of possible layouts, in order to develop a suitable structure for my application, see Wireframes below:
In all of the above wireframes, I have stuck with the touch screen best practice of placing the navigation at the bottom of the screen, so that users do not obscure content with their arms whilst navigating.
I narrowed the possibilities down to these two see below:
In both wireframes a user would see a title at the top of the page indicting their position within the application and the navigation is at the bottom as I mentioned earlier, but the centre of the application is where I had a decision to make. The potential user will look at the application from left to right which is the normal reading method in the western world, in wireframe 1 the user encounters the image first followed by the information and in wireframe 2 the user encounters the information first, followed by the image and an argument can be made for using both layouts.
You could say that the user needs to learn the information before looking at the image, which they can then apply their new found knowledge to but this is not the layout I chose and here is why; the application is about looking at portraiture and it is entitled ‘Look at Me’, so I felt the user should first look at the image, then read the information and if need be take a second, deeper more informed look at the image, this should help the user to get into the habit of looking at portraits before reading the information about them, which is part of the application’s purpose. See chosen layout below:
